Southfield Pump Station
The existing Southfield Pump Station, originally installed in 1961 at the corner of Linger Lane and Larry Tim Drive in Bridgeport Charter Township, served a residential area from Creekwood Drive east to Sun Valley Drive and Germain Drive south to Southfield Court. The aging facility consisted of an 8-foot diameter Smith & Loveless underground metal drywell with duplex two-speed pumps, a 6-foot diameter concrete wet well, and an adjacent valve vault.
Due to its outdated design—including confined space access requirements, undersized wet well, and inefficient manual pump speed controls—the station no longer met current standards. Equipment was nearing the end of its useful life, and the shared forcemain system with King Road Pump Station created operational challenges during high flow events. To address these issues, the Township chose to replace the station with a modern duplex submersible pump station at the west end of Larry Tim Drive, along with a new dedicated forcemain extending south to Williamson Road.
Spicer Group led the project by providing full design services, bid assistance, and construction administration. The scope included installation of a new 10-inch gravity sewer, 6-inch forcemain, ductile iron-to-HDPE pipe connections, electrical upgrades, and site improvements such as driveway paving and sidewalk replacement. The existing pump station was demolished and replaced with new submersible pumps designed for greater efficiency and safety.
