Bentley and DePue Detention Basin and Drain
Spicer Group was hired to provide engineering and construction administration for the Bentley and DePue Drain and Detention Basin project. It involved improvements for a 6-mile-long county drain system in Eaton County where Spicer Group led the design and coordination of a new regional detention basin to enhance stormwater management and reduce flooding throughout the drainage district.
The regional detention basin served as a critical component of the overall system upgrade, designed to detain and slowly release stormwater runoff from both open and enclosed portions of the Bentley and DePue Drain. Its design was integrated into a broader strategy that included storm sewer replacement, open channel daylighting, and cleanout of existing drain segments.
The project was completed in accordance with the Michigan Drain Code and required close coordination with stakeholders. This included securing easements from affected property owners, navigating environmental permitting processes, and presenting project updates at Township board meetings. Regular design and construction coordination meetings were also held to ensure timely delivery and alignment with community goals.
