McCarty Road Pump Station Replacement

Spicer Group provided the survey, design and construction inspection for the Saginaw Charter Township’s McCarty Road Pump Station Replacement project. The original drywell/wetwell station was installed in the early 1970’s and receives flow from the 36-inch trunk sewer along McCarty Road. The station discharges into a 20-inch force main that connects to the Northwest Utility Authority (NWUA) forcemain network which outlets at the City of Saginaw WWTP. Three new submersible pumps were installed in a new 25-foot diameter, 33-foot deep concrete wet well.

The station’s firm pump capacity is 3,800 gpm, with each pump rated for 1,900 gpm. The station was provided with the capability to add a future 4th pump to increase the firm pump capacity to 5,700 gpm. Stainless steel guiderails were installed for removing and installing the pumps without having to enter the wet well. The project included construction of a 700 square foot split-face block pump station building to house the valves, flow meter and controls. The pumps were equipped with variable frequency drives (VFD’s) and pump operation is controlled by a new Multitrode pump control system with ultrasonic level sensors. Back-up floats were also provided. The improvements also included equipping the station with an autodialer alarm system and an onsite 800 kW diesel generator.
