Hemlock Tile Drain System
As part of a county-wide drainage improvement effort, Spicer Group served as the Project Engineer for the design of a newly consolidated county drain system serving the community of Hemlock. An important element of the project was the development of a 4-acre-foot detention basin designed to manage peak flows and reduce downstream flooding as part of a newly consolidated county drain.
The detention basin design was supported by detailed hydrologic and hydraulic analyses, including unsteady-state SWMM modeling, to accurately size the facility and optimize its performance during storm events. The basin was integrated into a larger enclosed storm sewer system, requiring coordination with existing utilities and surrounding landowners.
In addition to engineering design, Spicer Group oversaw wetland delineation, land acquisition, and construction administration, ensuring that the detention basin was effectively sited, permitted, and constructed. The project also included the establishment of a new drainage district to fund and maintain the long-term operation of the system.
