Renovations to Frankenmuth Pedestrian Bridge

Spicer Group was hired by the City of Frankenmuth to complete a bridge inspection of the Frankenmuth pedestrian bridge that spans 210 feet over the Cass River. The bridge sits beside Main Street, adjacent to the M-81 structure and provides access to the River Place Shops. The bridge was originally constructed in 2001 and had never been inspected before. Spicer Group completed the inspection in March 2022 and presented the city with suggestions to enhance the structure.

Spicer Group was also hired for the design repairs and to oversee renovations to the bridge. The improvements included sealing the expansion joints at the piers to prevent water from leaching through, applying epoxy sealer to fill the existing cracks in the concrete deck of the bridge, electrical repairs to the boxes, cleaning and painting the structural members, and bottom chord bolted retrofit to fix the weld quality.

Construction began in summer 2023, with the project finishing up in the fall.
