Genesee Avenue Bridge Maintenance Design

The Genesee Avenue bridge is a six-span steel I-beam structure that crosses over the Saginaw River, approximately 475 feet in length and 66.4 feet in width. After the completion of a bridge inspection for the City of Saginaw, which found cracks in the bridge surface, rust in the deck drains, debris in the expansion joints, weathering steel and rusty beams, Spicer Group was hired to provide professional services for bridge maintenance design. This included work scoping, designing, preparing plans, specifications, and costs for the capital preventative maintenance for the steel girder structure, designing underwater substructure repairs, sidewalk patching, expansion joint replacement, deck patching and epoxy overlay. Spicer prepared all plans and bidding according to the MDOT’s LAP and also provided construction oversight during the repairs which were completed in summer of 2023.
