Fordney Road Bridge Rehabilitation

Located over Beaver Creek on Fordney Road, the Fordney Road Bridge underwent crucial rehabilitation due to age-related deterioration. Spicer Group, responsible for bridge inspections in Saginaw County since the 1990s, identified corrosion and deck damage during routine inspections, prompting weight restrictions on the bridge.

The Saginaw County Road Commission opted to replace the superstructure, securing $800,000 in funding from the Michigan Department of Transportation's Local Agency Program. Initial designs considered various options, including Steel I-Beams and Prestressed Concrete Box Beams. However, high post-Covid-19 construction costs led to the adoption of Press Brake Tub Girders (PBTGs), offering economic and low-maintenance benefits.

Coordinated by Spicer Group, the PBTG design process utilized Bentley’s OpenBridge Designer for efficient analysis. Construction commenced after demolition in summer 2023, with the Fordney Road Bridge reopening in the fall of 2023.
