First Year of Internship

Skills you will acquire:

• Learn to read engineering plans and specifications 

• Gain basic knowledge of Drain Code and County Drains

• Develop basic AutoCAD skills

• Develop skills with basic survey equipment

• Develop basic GIS skills for map development

• Develop basic Excel skills

• Develop basic watershed delineation skills  

On-the-job experience you will acquire:

• Perform basic construction observation

• Perform field collection of data

Second Year of Internship

SKills you will acquire:

• Build upon skills from Year 1 

• Gain experience in cost estimating 

on-the-job experience you will acquire:

• Gain experience with basic hydrology and hydraulic calculations 

• Gain experience with more advanced GIS tasks 

• Perform construction observation on more complex projects

• Assist with field delineation of drainage districts 

• Assist with service request inspections for maintenance on drains 

Third and Fourth Year of Internship

Skills you will acquire:

• Build upon skills from Year 2 

• Assist with plan development 

• Begin performing Design Engineer tasks 

On-the-job experience you will acquire:

• Basic Hydrology and Hydraulic modeling
