Gratiot Road Pump Station

The Gratiot Road pumping station was upgraded from a 3mgd capacity to a 9mgd capacity. Three new 125hp/3125 gpm booster pumps and three new 200hp, 3125 gpm re-pumps with variable frequency drives were installed to automatically adjust to changing flow conditions. Based upon the increase in power required for the new pumps and the addition of a third pump, the electrical service of the station was increased from 600 Amp, 480 Volt, 3 Phase; to 1200 Amp, 480 Volt, 3 Phase. The existing 2 independent feeds from Consumers Energy were increased to 1200 Amps, and a new generator was added to the station to increase the reliability of the water distribution. New meters for the water supply system were installed at the station to eliminate two remote metering sites. Spicer Group was responsible for the design and construction inspection.
