W.E. Quicksall & Associates Joins Spicer Group

We are excited to announce that W.E. Quicksall and Associates has joined Spicer Group. Located out of New Philadelphia, OH, with an additional office in Canfield, OH, Quicksall specializes in providing civil engineering services to local, state, and governmental clients across eastern Ohio.

“As part of Spicer Group’s growth goals, we’ve been looking for a quality firm with strong roots and valued client connections,” said Mike Stanoikovich, PS, Spicer Group’s Ohio Regional Vice President. “We are always looking to forge new partnerships with other high-performing consulting firms that could benefit from the large spectrum of services Spicer Group offers. We are glad Quicksall gave us the opportunity to get to know each other a little better, because they have the level of quality we were looking for.”

W.E. Quicksall and Associates was formed on February 22, 1959 by its namesake William E. Quicksall, who was a mechanical engineer. His son, William E. Quicksall, Jr., assisted his father in jumpstarting the business and remained on board until 1994.

In 1976, William Jr.’s sons, Don Quicksall, PE, and Dave Quicksall joined the company after Don graduated from Akron University with a degree in Civil Engineering. He and his brother, Dave, took over the reins of the company after William Jr. retired in 1994. Dave retired in 2016. Don’s son, Nate Quicksall, PE, joined the company in 2010 after working as an engineer in Jacksonville, FL. Nate received his degree in Civil Engineering from Ohio State University.

“The first time I remember going to the Quicksall office as a kid, it was the first time I smelled ammonia,” Don Quicksall said. “It was from the process they used to make blueprints.”

Don’s father and grandfather had great relationships with the Ohio Department of Transportation, which was then known as the Ohio Department of Highways, and provided a significant amount of survey and engineering for the construction of roads and highways.

“That work provided a lot of opportunities for us. We were able to grow and hire staff to meet the demands of the projects,” Don Quicksall said.

In the early 1970s, Don said that former Quicksall employee, Art Taylor, was hired. “Art really hustled and taught our office how to design treatment plants, pump stations, sanitary sewers, and drinking water systems.”

“He really built that department up,” Don said. “He was able to secure somewhere around 80 percent of the state’s allocations of EPA (Environmental Protection Act) funds back then because he got a lot of people excited about doing projects.”

Those relationships have continued to remain and expand into today.

“Our clients want to work with someone they can trust and that is local,” Don Quicksall said.

“All of our clients are aware of this exciting integration with Spicer Group,” he said. “We have made our clients aware that they will continue to work with the staff from Quicksall with whom they have always worked. Spicer Group’s overall capabilities enhance what we can offer to them and what we can do for them.”

Nate Quicksall, PE, explained that W.E. Quicksall has always been committed to serving communities throughout Eastern and Southeastern Ohio with professionalism, integrity, and exceptional client service. That commitment remains unchanged. They will continue serving their clients with the same level of care, responsiveness, and technical expertise for decades to come.

“Spicer Group shares these same core values and a deep focus on service—making this partnership a natural and meaningful fit,” Nate said. “With nearly 400 employees combined, our unified team is better positioned than ever to provide the services our clients have relied upon, now supported by greater resources, enhanced technical capabilities, and an expanded suite of service offerings.”

Spicer Group, as a whole, is focused on developing new relationships in the eastern United States. With already established offices in Michigan and Georgia, adding Quicksall to the Spicer Group team helps expand the company’s ability to serve new clients with the same level of quality that Spicer Group has provided since 1944.

“I’m very excited to see Quicksall come on board,” Spicer Group CEO Ron Hansen, PE, PS said. “We just opened offices in Independence, OH and Maumee, OH, and Quicksall’s office locations and excellent staff will allow us to provide services in an expanded geographic area as well as grow new relationships. There are a lot of entities between Michigan and Georgia in need of the quality level of services that we provide, and we continue to strengthen our ability to meet those needs.”
