Prior Road Pump Station
Spicer Group was responsible for the design, permitting tasks, bidding, and construction administration for the construction of this new pump station which replaced and old outdated one at the Shiawassee River State Game Area (SRSGA). The new station has a 12-foot by 15-foot cast-in-place concrete wet well that is 18 feet deep and has five 36-inch inlet pipes equipped with slide gates. The upper portion of the pump station has a 6-foot by 21-foot distribution chamber with five 36-inch by 24-inch arched outlet pipes with slide gates.
Having multiple inlet and outlet pipes with slide gates gives SRSGA managers the ability to take in water from various sections as well as pump to key locations based on conditions and needs. Water is pumped through the station by a new 40hp axial-flow propeller-style pump that is rated for 10,000 gallons per minute. New electrical services connecting to a new control panel were also installed. Due to the very poor soil conditions around the site, six 50-foot-long steel h-piles will be driven into the ground and provide support for the entire structure.
