Meet Steve Roznowski, PE
Steve Roznowski, PE, named as new President/CEO
Spicer’s ninth President, Steve Roznowski, PE, initially came to Spicer Group as an intern. After three summers interning with Spicer, he went to Colorado for graduate school. Once he was done, Roznowski called two of his contacts at Spicer —one being his presidential predecessor Ron Hansen —to say he had finished his master’s degree and was hoping they might have a job for him. His summers of experience at Spicer made it clear this was where he wanted to build his career.
“It 100% was the culture,” Roznowski said. “It’s the people. You get a rapport and a relationship with the people you work with. It’s a good environment. People here work very hard, yet they’re personable. They work together as a team and you feel like you’re part of a team.”
A native of Bay City, Michigan, Roznowski started with Spicer in 2010 working out of the Saginaw headquarters. He now lives in Southeast Michigan and is based out of our Dundee office.
“There was an opportunity to expand,” Roznowski said. “That was a new frontier at the time. I picked up and moved my family down to Southeast Michigan in 2014.”
While Roznowski is the first Spicer Group president to have his main office in a location other than Saginaw, he has a secondary office in the headquarters building, and he said he plans to spend time in the various Spicer office locations. He wants to be accessible to all the company’s employees.
“I don’t want there to be anybody who’s afraid to say, ‘Hey, I want to pick up a phone and call Steve.’”
When not in the office, Roznowski is spending time with his wife Beth and their five children. Their family also includes a slew of animals, with the children excitedly helping to raise sheep, rabbits, chickens, and a dog. He also plays on the co-ed softball team at his church and enjoys restoring old tractors.
Roznowski said Spicer Group’s culture is also that of a family. Those who have been with the company for a significant time are always looking to share their knowledge and help younger workers advance. That mentorship is something Roznowski highly values and plans to continue emphasizing during his presidential tenure.
“There is definitely an emphasis at Spicer on that family atmosphere, that culture, which leads to people investing in the people around them,” Roznowski said. “If you have a personal relationship with your coworkers, you are more invested in their success, and you are invested in that shared success.”
That success has manifested as growth throughout Michigan and into Georgia and Ohio. Roznowski plans to continue the growth trend as President/CEO.
“We’re going to see more expansion in Ohio and Georgia,” he said. “Quite frankly, I don’t think it stops with Ohio and Georgia.”
And in every office, with every employee—current and future—he aims to build on the workplace culture and hard work philosophy that attracted him to Spicer 16 years ago.
“This is a great place to work,” Roznowski said. “We want it to continue to be a great place to work. We want to be able to build good projects and leave things better than we found them.”
