MANISTEE RIVER SEWER IMPOVEMENTS
Spicer Group worked with the City of Manistee to rehabilitate more than five miles of aging sanitary sewer and manhole infrastructure along the Manistee River. The project aimed to eliminate stormwater infiltration and inflow into the sanitary system, which had historically contributed to overflow discharges into Manistee Lake and River. Using cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) and manhole lining technology, Spicer’s design extended the life expectancy of the system by up to 100 years without the need for full reconstruction or roadway replacement.
In addition to the sewer lining, Spicer Group designed and oversaw the construction of new stormwater infrastructure to reduce groundwater intrusion into the wastewater network. Funded through the U.S. Rural Development program, the improvements have provided immediate benefits, including reduced yard flooding and continuous stormwater flow through newly installed sewers. This work represents a major milestone in modernizing the City’s underground infrastructure while preserving the integrity of the historic Manistee River corridor.
