Dow Gardens Pathway

Spicer Group provided engineering and landscape architectural designs services for unique additions and renovations at the popular Dow Gardens in Midland, MI. The project was an effort to improve universal access to visitors of all ages and abilities. Spicer Group first assisted the gardens with providing new exposed aggregate walkways to match the existing paths in the gardens and an improved parking area and driveway. As the paths and parking lot were being improved, Dow Gardens wanted to expand access around their pond which was completely inaccessible and difficult to get around.

Spicer Group designed a new accessible walkway around the pond connecting formerly inaccessible areas of the gardens. The key improvements included paved walkways, a viewing platform, a shade structure, a culvert and land bridge, limestone cap on the existing metal wall of the pond, an aerating fountain in the pond, lighting, drainage, plantings and seating.
