Founded by Clifford Spicer in 1944, Spicer Group began as Spicer Engineering.
An engineer and land surveyor, Spicer started his own firm from his
Saginaw
home.
This small venture prospered during World War II and further thrived during the
enormous growth of the latter part of the century. In the early years, Spicer Engineering
provided site development, surveying and the construction of water, wastewater and
drainage systems to expanding townships and municipalities.
Dedicated to improving the community, Spicer Engineering assisted the
Saginaw area throughout the years. Spicer Engineering continued to grow
and expand becoming recognized as leading experts in storm water management
and environmental issues. As our services grew, so did our staff, resulting
in several moves to larger offices.
In 1994, Spicer Engineering celebrated its 50th Anniversary and was honored
by Governor John Engler for its commitment. In an effort to expand our
service area in 1997, Spicer Engineering merged with EDI in
St. Johns,
establishing our St. Johns
office.
A year later, Spicer Engineering outgrew its Saginaw office and relocated
to our current location on
South Washington.
Our name also changed with the New Year. Spicer Engineering became
Spicer Group, Inc. This name change reflects our commitment to full
range engineering, surveying and planning services.
In 2003, Spicer merged with Cass River Land Survey to form Cass River
Engineering and Surveying, A Division of Spicer Group in Caro. In 2005,
the union became a permanent part of Spicer Group. Later that year, Spicer
Group opened an office in Detroit to manage the growing water resources
workload in Southeast Michigan.
Spicer Group continues to look for opportunities to assist communities
in a wide range of markets which include site development, construction
administration and inspection, architecture and landscape architecture,
grant writing, geographic information systems and mapping, and
bathymetric survey, to name a few.
In 2007, Spicer Group opened a new office in Tempe, Arizona. With expanding
markets in many regions, Spicer Group looks to provide
quality services to new communities.
With our thriving staff of over 145 employees, Spicer Group continues
to be a leading engineering, surveying and planning firm. It is our
commitment to our clients and the communities we work with to provide
stronger, safer and smarter solutions in a rapidly changing environment.
